Time To Get Basic

And no, I’m not talking about me & my every day life. I’m referring to something we all can’t live without… water!

Yeah, our water should be basic (like me).

For those of you who haven’t taken chemistry in a few years, basic=alkaline. Quick science lesson: the pH scale ranges from 1-14, with 7 being neutral. The lower on the scale you are, the more acidic you are; the higher up on the scale, the more basic (alkaline…get it?) you are. I’ve posted my alkaline water on my Instagram account a few times and always get people asking me exactly what it is. So, I’ll tell you.

Normal drinking water should have a neutral pH of 7, but a lot of common water brands (i.e. disgusting Dasani) don’t. People say that drinking alkaline water can help neutralize our blood’s acidity, help with digestion, and help with a few other common health conditions (high blood pressure, diabetes, etc.). A study also showed that when dehydrated individuals drank alkaline water- compared to normal water- after exercising, their blood viscosity (how easily blood flows through our veins & arteries) decreased significantly more. What does that mean? Drinking alkaline water after working out helped these people’s blood flow better through their bodies, thus delivering more oxygen wherever needed (heart, brain, lungs, etc.).

My inner nerd is thriving right now.

Moral of the story: basic water has some awesome health benefits, especially after working out. Try and buy water that’s higher up on the pH scale whenever you can. I know not all supermarkets sell these waters, but if you happen to come across some of the brands below, snag a few bottles.

Alkaline Water To Try:

  • Essentia
  • Alkaline88
  • blk
  • PhURE
  • Echo

AVOID THESE WATER BRANDS:

  • Dasani (did I even need to put this on here?? GROSS)
  • Vitaminwater
  • Propel
  • Poland Spring

Neutral Waters:

  • Evian (7.0)
  • Zephyrhills (7.5)
  • Fiji (7.5)

Oh, the famous blk water I always post on my Instagram & SnapChat is black because it’s infused with fulvic minerals. Read more here. It tastes like normal, clear water. I promise.

  1. Zephyrhills is my new one. I stopped Dasani a long time ago because I realized it was very acidic,

    Very illustrating article.
